This page is intended for visitors to this site who are either starting their own Lion King themed site or just looking for some kind of help or add-on for their existing site. I’ve broken the different resources/services into categories. Quite a few of these are affiliate or sister sites to The Lion King Pride. I am always willing to offer advice, suggestions, or answer simple questions on building websites. I cannot, however, take the extreme steps of building it for you (at least, for free.)
Site Hosts
- Lionking.org – This is most popular host for Lion King sites out there! However, I would not recommend this for beginners, as there are no online editors. You must be able to do your work offline and have an FTP program to upload. But, Brian, the owner, does NOT charge anything. If you are willing to learn the ins and outs of FTP, this is a great resource.
- Webs/Freewebs – This host is also free. Unlike lionking.org, which would require some page building knowledge, Freewebs has an “easy website builder” (probably WYSIWYG – what you see is what you get – type editor). Meaning you do not need to know HTML to get a neat looking page up and running.
- Hostmonster – This is a paid host, with plans starting around $5 a month. I personally use this host and love it. The perks to having a paid host over a free one are many: customer support, domain hosting, domain email hosting, software plugins (i.e. forums, photo galleries, and more), php support, etc. Free hosts like lionking.org or Angelfire or Freewebs do not offer a lot of these services. (Note: I am not getting a commission for posting this. *lol*)
Page Building
- Notepad++ – An advanced version of Notepad, this is great for those who want to make their own HTML coded sites! Powerful, and FREE!
- CoffeeCup HTML Editor – While this does cost money (about $70), this is truly the last HTML editor you’ll need. This lets you toggle between HTML and (if you are newer to coding) WYSIWYG style editing. With a click, you can quickly add HTML coding for making menus, adding javascript, and more. A color schemer is also included to help find the perfect complementing colors for your new or redesigned site. (Note: An ad-supported Free HTML Editor is also available from this company. However, some features are lost.)
- Lyn’s Resource Center – Whether you’re just starting your first page or just need a reference on how to do that elusive feature on your page, this is the spot for you. Some features include HTML code reference, page tips, and more. (Sister site to TLKP.)
- HTML Goodies – Need a more in depth HTML guide? This is where to go! Lots of how-to guides on this site, a must see for learning how to do almost anything with your page.
Graphics
- GIMP – If you’re looking for a free graphics maker, you can’t get much better than this. Downloadable.
- Corel Paint Shop Pro – A paid program, but is still a LOT less expensive than the ever popular Adobe Photoshop. (around $80 vs. around $700) It has most of the features of Photoshop and a lot more. Plus, Photoshop plugins also work with PSP. (Formerly offered by Jasc, and later bought out by Corel.)
Other Services
- Top 50 Lion King Sites list – A unique service ranks Lion King sites based on how many votes they receive. Webmasters place a logo on their site asking their visitors to vote for them. Can you make it to #1? (A service brought to you by TLKP.)
- The Lion King Counter – This site offers a visitors counter for your site. These counters can be seen on Lion King sites all over the internet! (currently not in operation)
Website Promotion
If you are looking to promote your website, there is no better way than submitting them yourselves to the search engines. Most search engines allow you to add your own link. Do not bother paying these people who advertise that they will add you…why pay when it is free to do on your own? The key, however, to getting your site to show nicely is using proper META tags on your site. To learn more about this, check out my site: Lyn’s Resource Center. (Site currently down!
